The Frankfurter is probably the best-known German sausage in the world. Some called them ‘wiener’ or in the United States ‘hot dog’ – seasoned sausage, traditionally of mixed pork and beef; the taste is acquired by low temperature smoking. Frankfurters are named for Frankfurt am Main, Germany, the city of their origin, where they were sold and eaten at beer gardens.
Cooking options:
1. Bring a pot of water to boil. Remove the pot from heat. Add sausages to the hot water and let sit for 8 to 10 minutes. Do not boil the Frankfurter sausages!
2. Fry in a little hot oil over a moderate heat for 4 minutes, turning frequently.
3. Preheat the oven to 200C, bake on a parchment lined baking tray for 6-8 minutes.
4. Place on a microwavable plate and cover. Cook on MEDIUM 2 frankfurters = 1 min 10 sec. Leave to stand for 1 minute before serving.
There are approximately 14 sausages in a 1 kg.
