We are all familiar from childhood with the painted figurines of the famous nesting dolls. It is considered a traditionally Russian souvenir.
According to one of the legends, a Buddhist figure, which was brought from Japan to a workshop near Moscow, became the prototype of the matryoshka. It was painted under the old sage, in which 4 figurines of his disciples were embedded. The figure immediately attracted the attention of the workshop workers, and already in 1890 a domestic doll appeared, which consisted of 8 brightly painted figures. And it got its name thanks to the name Matryona, which was widespread at that time.
